Lots of new photos!

Hi! Socky and I have been really busy, so I haven't written for a while, but here are some new photos. We had dinner last night at Dave and Barbara's "bach" ... A bach is like a vacation place that people might go to on weekends. Their bach is called the "cow shed," I think because it actually WAS a cow shed once, a long time ago. But now  it's fixed up like a little house, and they served us a wonderful dinner of mussels, and a dish made with chicken and mushrooms, and a dessert that I think was a berry pudding with gobs of delicious whipped cream on top. Very civilized! Here's the little path leading down to the cow shed, and the cow shed sits at the edge of a small lake they call the "duck pond"...

Here is my sister-in-law Jane leading me over toward the cow shed.

Here is Jane's daughter-in-law Keryn and Jane's grandson Isaac who is an adorable and very happy baby.

Here is Jane's daughter Emma and little Isaac.

For the past few days, we have been house-sitting for some people who are away on a short trip. This is the view of Bethells Beach from their living room window!!

This is the path from the house where we're staying that goes down to the south end of the beach.

When we went down to the beach yesterday morning there were these enormous bird footprints on the path. It looked to me like a very long-legged bird had walked along there. Its strides were as long as mine! I'll have to find out what kind of bird it was!!

This is the house we are staying in while we house-sit.

Here is Emma, my partner Steve, Keryn, and baby Isaac.

Here is Bethells Beach looking north from the south end.

Here is my partner Steve's sister Jane, her husband John, and Steve.

Here's the sun setting over the ocean. It looks as if there's a big downtown skyline right at the water's edge, but it's just clouds.

Here's Bethells Beach at around sunset.

Here's our niece Emma.

Here's Keryn and her baby Isaac.

Here's Meyer and Socky!

Here's Meyer and Emma -- and Socky!!

Here's the track going up from the beach.

Here's Socky driving the Jeep down to the beach.

If you look really closely, you can see Socky diving the Jeep in this photo.

Here he is again!

Here's Emma at the Pak n Save with a giant head of cabbage.

We got stopped on the drive into town because they were repaving the road ... and we had to wait for about ten minutes ... so I got the workman to pose with Socky!

Here's the view from the place where we're house-sitting.

Here's Socky on the windowsill of the place where we're staying.

There was a wonderful rainbow on the land side at the beach. You can see it reflected in the water.

Here's a big jellyfish. Apparently scientists don't call them jellyfish any more. They just call them "jellies" because they really aren't fish!

And some giant kelp.

Here's Chach on the beach.

Here's the beach looking north.

Here are John, Steve, Jane, and Chach in the water. There's a really strong undertow at this beach, but John grew up here and he can look at the water and see if it's a good day to swim.

Here's another photo of the place we are house-sitting.

Here are Keryn and Isaac.

Here's a very polite Keep Out! sign with hearts on it.

Here's a pretty horse.

Socky went for a little horse-back ride!

Here's where the stream goes into the ocean.

Here's a movie of kids sliding down the sand-dunes on boogie boards.

Alongside the stream, there were a couple of animal holes and I asked later on what they were and John thought they were rabbit holes! I've seen a lot of cute little brown rabbits with white tails, but I haven't been fast enough to get photos of any of them.

There's a man walking along the top of the sand dunes here. See how tiny he is and how big the dunes are?

The architecture in downtown Auckland is really interesting. I'll take more photos of buildings the next time we go downtown.

Here's my sister-in-law Jane with Socky on the beach.

Here's Socky with some giant kelp. I still haven't seen any stick insects or praying mantises this trip.

Another beach photo! It takes about forty minutes to walk down to the other end of the beach and back.

The clouds here are spectacular.

The clouds are often reflected in the shallow water on the beach.

Here are some more sunset clouds.

And here is a picture of me and Socky on the beach!

I'll put more photos up soon! Hi everyone!!
Lots of love, Penny
